MEPS Beyond 2007
The Australian Government, through the Australian Greenhouse Office has defered the 1st October 2008 MEPS revision (via open letter May 2007). No specific time frame has been set but the AGO has hinted at 12-24 month delay, beyond the 2008 date.
The AGO has taken this action because of intense lobbying from industry groups, the delay will allow manufacturers to deal with the new 2009 Energy Labelling regulations as well as other proposed non energy related regulatory requirements.
The AGO has advised manufacturers that the Australian Government will proceed to maintain the stringency levels of the current standard .... "unless industry presents compelling reasons for variation".
